Typefaces

Yes, there’s a new type foundry online and we have british Alex Haigh to thank for that. The site is focused on showcasing the best in today’s typographic talent, as well as providing a platform for creatives to see & buy unique fonts by the likes of Alex Trochut, Jon Burgerman, Si Scott, Hellohikimori or Luke Lucas.

Jónas

Jónas Valtýsson is a designer from Iceland, born in Reykjavík but he says his heart lies in Mosfellsbær ‘where the mountains see everything and the trees keep secrets’. This approach towards his surroundings results in gritty, dreamlike designs mixed with photography of his beautiful home country. His latest art work is more clean though.

type dump

If you have been wondering what happens to old signs when buildings get destructed: they get destructed too… Time for a rescue plan, two berliner afficionados decided, and they started up the first german Buchstabenmuseum, ‘Museum of Letters’. It’s opened on saturdays only, but Core77 has had a look inside.

hand made fonts

HMF makes fonts using a variety of materials and graphic styles. Besides being fun to browse through, they can be quite useful. Not cheap, but considering the work they put in, it makes sence.

IdeaPaint

Sometimes I have an idea at someone’s desk and want to sketch it out. I’m always looking for paper to create it on which takes time and is often way too small. It would be perfect to start writing on the wall next to you. Now with IdeaPaint you can transform walls into useful brainstorm space. Or draw useless cartoons next to your colleague.

Infographics

I’m a fan of clear infographics, especially how they’re designed in dutch newspapers like NRC, AD or VK. Next week there’s a conference on this subject in hotel/theatre Figi in Zeist, The Netherlands. The speakers list includes international speakers like Harjit Kaura and national professionals like Ramses Reijerman.

iLT

I Love Typography, an inspiring blog about (yes, you guessed it right) typography, initiated back in 2007 by John D Boardly, currently living in Japan, to make people more aware of the typography that’s around them. With an URL we at NewWork can relate to. Oh, and I really want this Helvetica Moleskin he mentioned.

Video on the sort of techy history of the Internet as told by Picol. PICOL stands for Pictorial Communication Language. It’s a project that aims to create “a standard and reduced sign system for electronic communication.”

Words of wisdom

St.Lukes set up this nice daily inbox-inspiration for the working mornings. Simple, goodlooking type and great quotes to print. Their client; the enigmatic “School of Life” (stigma-free psychotherapy and secular sermons anyone?).

MC Identity

Hotel and MC are proud to present the newly developed visual language for MC. A unique combination of strategy and design converged to a dedicated typeface. This font was developed with the idea that a theater with its own unique voice and language should visually be repre- sented equally. This characteristic font serves all commu- nication, both printed and online, thus making the type- face an important part of the communication strategy.

The quick brown fox

Autobahn is a small graphic design office consisting of three people. They get their inspiration from everything around them, resulting in creative work. I really like the fact that they try to use ‘the outside world’ in their projects. For the font-things they made their own minisite.

Let’s say typo-graphic extravaganza is your thing. Then
you wil love this book by Hong Kong based publisher for
design and art, viction:ary. And because it is out on the
market for some time now, it’s on sale at Amazon. So
there’s even less of a reason not to get this great,
inspiring book.

typodermia

You can argue if this post belongs in the typo category, but I guess you can argue about more aspects of this post. German artist Iris Schieferstein created an animal, uhm… typeface for her work “life can be so nice”. Beautifully disturbing, or disturbingly beautiful.
