Privacy/space
After just coming back from a great week in an apartment in Rome with my girl I turn my city trip game around completely. No more hotels or hostels. If you want real privacy, more space, flexibility, comfort and a central location go for an apartment. I myself am a fan of Barcelona based Friendly Rentals.

I must say for Barcelona I have very very good experience with http://www.enjoybarcelona.net (the perfect spot in the Centre of the Centre) and http://www.barcelonaselected.com/el_born_apartment_05.htm if you like it a bit more quiet. Rome is still on my list…
Currently at a great place an hour outside of Rome (http://www.vrbo.com/21938)through Vacation Rentals by Owner. Love This place! Tomorrow Rome. Rental apartment of course!
