Making of

In the IMAX I was one of those people sitting there for 162 minutes with my mouth open, really digging this film. After waiting so long and seeing it I just wanted to see one other film: the making of. And here it is: starts out with Cameron’s vision followed by great capture insights. Check Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4 and Part 5.

Cameron my man, you know how to get stuff done. The tech in use is out of this world (pun intended). You’ve got your live 3d sets, realtime facial rigging, on set renders, incredible set pieces, etc etc. Staggering stuff. I love it.

I really don’t get it… What’s the fuzz about those blue people a.k.a. bad looking smurfs? I’ve seen the trailer, commercials etc. I really can’t find anything that makes me wan to go see the movie, or why this project is so hyped. Can anyone please explain?

@ D. van der P. Trailers, the site and even this making of don’t reflect the impact this movie has if you check it in 3D at an IMAX theater. It’s next gen. Verplichte kost Daan!

Plus:

Don’t watch trailers anymore. Of ANY movie. Because nowadays they spoil the whole story and all the twists right there in the trailer. The whole element of surprise – if it story, effect or dialog – is gone. I only watch teasers, no trailers. And listen to word of mouth. And this film is in 3D, you can’t see that online. IMAX, that’s all we say.

@Harald I know, I had the same thought about trailers. Although it crossed my mind that perhaps nowadays movies lack of storytelling is the cause… I think it says more about the shallowness of movies than about trailer making.
Inglorious bastards did a good job. Film was totally different then what they showed in the trailer without disappointing or giving something away. So, it should still be possible to create a good teasing trailer ;)

Anyways, back to the topic. I figured I just have to go to a Imax cinema nearby and hopefully level with y’all about this one!

Daan, do it. Almost everyone I spoke to who had the same thoughts about ugly blue 2D creatures (including myself) totally twisted their opinion after this ‘experience’. It’s not a film. I could not compare it to a traditional ‘cinematic’ experience, not even if I wanted to. It’s really something else. Although the story is just Pocahontas II + Still Dancing With Wolves.
