Finally someone dared to make a proper book about the corporate identity that was used to communicate the totalitarian ideology and practices of the National Socialists. Ofcourse a very sensitive subject for many as this identity was both brilliant as it was scary in its effect on the masses. You can read an interview with German graphic designer and author of the book Andreas Koop.

I have to admit… I’m quite fascinated by this corporate identity book. Obviously the purpose and the context of the Nazi identity and the ideology are beyond horrific. But the consistency, the structured and precise approach to design and also the utilisation of available talent is quite astonishing.
For instance: The nazi uniforms where designed by Hugo Boss, Christian Dior himself dressed the wives and some people say Coco Chanel, who dated an SS officer in Paris at the time, picked the colours for the uniforms…
Interesting thing to read in the interview that Knoop concludes there wasn’t really a brandbook or guideline. Makes you wonder how they did it.
Looks great! Very interesting. To me the only downside is that it’s written in German :(
