Really good initiative. First in the world I heard!
There’s one thing happening here, you see it over & over again, also with organisations like BNO: the descision makers at these institutes have no feeling for the graphic design of interfaces. No structure, no international approach, no refinement of details. Really something for the NewWork generation to change that old fashioned view on online graphic design.
@ Michiel: Well, what I mean is that the professional organisations like BNO or this Museum become slightly more aware of graphic design for digital purposes. I’m glad that this is so, but to me this still comes across as something that had to be in there and not out of believe in the power of the medium nor the believe in the strenght of dutch interface design.
In my opinion these organisations can make big steps by also promoting interface design as Dutch Design and so give dutch GUI design the same strong association as other fields of Dutch Design, like Product Design, Graphic Design for Print, Interior Design etc.
My reaction to this post is also based on the websites of these organisations itself. The launch of the site of the Graphic Design Museum opened with an unclear interface that prompted a media player which was not userfriendely and came across as a bit hastly designed. If you take a look at the site of the BNO you get the feeling of reading a small folder. The ADCN however takes it more serieus with a good, decent interface.
To conclude, I would love to see the design projects for these organisations or ministries being granted to the new generation of graphic designers rather than the more traditional dutch graphic design agencies. The younger crowd grew up with computers and embraced the internet from an early point on. Let the NewWorkers prove their skills and bring forward their views on the digital environment.
