The real level

If you ask me, Adidas is killing Nike on the ‘08 soccer campaign. To me the ‘Next Level’ ad looks more like an EA Games commercial and has very little to do with what makes millions of people kick off every Sunday on a kicked off field. In the meantime Adidas tells stories about the soul of the game rather then about Nikes flashing lights and fame and makes much more use of online tools to do so. But that’s just me, off course.

Bam!
I totally agree with you. Although I was impressed by the fairly original idea Nike came up with, it seemed too much like pop music. This while Adidas came up with some creative stuff that felt like soul mixed with a piece of improv jazz!!
So that just makes two of us!

I have to say that I don’t agree. The Nike commercial, except from te part with the flashing lights and the lady, feels more like a quick rush, a fast sprint. Which works really good for the excitement a new tournament, the European Cup, gives.

The Adidas commercials are more stretched, more about the love of the game, more about spending a good time together, playing soccer. The website works better for this, because you can take time to really digest all the different videos.

So to me the Nike one is about a boost, a selfconfidence boost, a dream for young boys to be discovered and in the end play for your national team. This is in essential the dream of every little boy playing football. The Adidas one is about the social part, about quality of life, about a chance for everyone. To me, these campaigns aren’t competing directly with each other, they just take different parts of the football experience. And I have to say that Adidas made a big step forward here, not trying to copy Nike commercials but to find their own way. Credits for 180 on that part.

Now I dream of becoming a famous football player, too!
